HMB capsules are a strong anti-catabolic in the form of calcium salt of β-hydroxy β-methylmalic acid. HMB is a product of leucin metabolism, released from muscle proteins by proteolysis. The first stage of the breakdown of this amino acid, which takes place in the muscles under the influence of physical exertion, is the appearance of α-ketoisokaproic acid (KIC), which is transported to liver cells. There it is converted in the cell cytoplasm to HMB or in mitochondria (cell gyms) into ketone bodies. Then HMB, getting back into the bloodstream, is distributed throughout the body, where it performs two essential functions.
Firstly, it inhibits proteolytic enzymes in muscles, degrading muscle proteins, thanks to which it significantly reduces exercise catabolism (breakdown) as well as post-exercise muscle tissue. Secondly, as a precursor to HMG-CoA and mevalonate, it is the main source of m.in. cholesterol synthesis in muscle, glandular, immune cells. Cholesterol is an essential component of biological membranes, consumed in the process of regeneration of damaged cells or synthesis of new ones.
HMB accelerates the body's adaptation to increased physical exertion, significantly reduces damage caused by intensive training, stimulates the growth of lean muscle mass, increases its strength and endurance, and has a beneficial effect on the body's aerobic capacity.
